I Am Taking Birth Control Pills But Still Got Pregnant

It's been months since I last updated this page. At first, I didn't know the reason why suddenly I lost my will to write. It's not that I am very good at writing articles, at least before, I am enjoying writing. But I came to realize why there is a sudden change in my mood and my behavior.

It was the last week of February when I felt nauseous and vomited several times. I thought it was just my acid reflux kicking in because I had 2 cups of coffee that day. But the next month came and one day, while I was just washing the dishes for just a few minutes, I felt dizzy then I vomited once again. That's when I knew there was something different with my body.

Pregnancy Test Results
I took pregnancy tests a few days after. I got 2 different brands of PT just to make sure. What made me crazy was that I got two different results!

I asked my friends about this and they all congratulated me. I was still in denial because every time they congratulate me, I always say that we are not yet sure.

So the next day I went to a clinic to have my Transvaginal Ultrasound. And even before the TVS, the OB-GYN already congratulated me.

During the ultrasound, I was really in shock when I heard the heartbeat. Even more shocked when I saw the baby with his complete legs and arms moving. I was already in my 2nd trimester. And I didn't even notice!

WHY DID I NOT NOTICE MY PREGNANCY?

If you already read my previous articles or watched my vlog, you all know that I am taking birth control pills. I was taking Daphne Pills, a progestin-only pill that is recommended for breastfeeding mothers.

One of the main reasons that I did not notice that I was pregnant was because I have no monthly periods because of the pills. Yes, this is one of the side effects of taking progestin-only pills and this is normal and safe.

Disclaimer: Ask your doctors for an opinion if you want to take any kinds of birth control pills.

SO WHY DID I GET PREGNANT EVEN WHILE TAKING PILLS?

The golden rule of taking progestin-only pills is to take them every single day, at the same time, no miss, no late. Even 2 hours of delay will increase your chance of pregnancy. There were times that I am late in taking the pills, much worst is that there were times that I even forget to take them for a day. So if you want to stick with these pills, it is best to take them properly. Set your alarm clock. Or if you are just like me who is very forgetful, might as well consider other birth control methods like injectable which is given every 3 months.

DOES TAKING BIRTH CONTROL PILLS HARMFUL DURING PREGNANCY?

I was told by the OB-GYN who did my ultrasound that it is not harmful to the baby when you take birth control pills. Thank goodness! That was my major concern the moment I knew I was pregnant. I read a lot of articles and it just made me nervous. The best way to make sure is to consult a doctor. And my baby looks so healthy and fine!

This pregnancy was unplanned just like my first pregnancy. But even if this is not what we are expecting, we are still excited to meet the newest member of the family, just like how we were excited before to meet Nathan. All babies are blessings to us!
