Mommies and Daddies, it's time to bring your kids to the nearest Pizza Hut store and let your kids experience making their own Pizza!

Pizza Hut Little Pizza Chef

Last Sunday, July 3, 2022, we had a family date at Pizza Hut Store and we found out that they offer Little Pizza Chef meal, which allows the kids to make their own Pizza. We let Nathan experience this fun activity because he likes making his own food.

Kids will get a set of Little Pizza amenities and the experience to create their own Pizza when they avail of Pizza Hut's “LPC XP Package” or the “LPC Meal”. Children below 12 years of age can avail of the promo and are available for dine-in only.

Nathan got his own Little Pizza Chef Hat and kiddie apron together with his own Pizza ingredients and raw dough

After he finished placing the sauce, cheese, and toppings, the duty Manager assisted him and guide him inside the kitchen and he personally loaded the Pizza into the oven. This was his favorite part! He was so happy that he got the chance to be inside the Pizza Hut kitchen. But as far as I know, they no longer allow the children to put the pizza in the oven by themselves for safety precautions. The duty Manager or a staff member will be the ones to place the raw pizza into the oven.

While waiting for his Pizza, Pizza Hut staff  provided an activity placemat so he won't get bored. The activity placemat was printed with fun activities that they can do like connecting the dots, crosswords puzzles, coloring pizzas and more!

After 15 minutes, Nathan got his own prepared Pizza! He was so proud of himself, and of course, we are also proud of him!

Have you ever met someone who loved arts and crafts so much that they turned it into a business and because of their love and passion, made it successful? If not, then you need to meet Sunshine Asuncion, owner and founder of The Crafter’s Marketplace also known as TCM.

TCM was born in 2015, the same week Sunshine’s youngest daughter was born! She started by sourcing coloring materials and hard-to-find adult coloring books for clients from Manila. As their customer base grew and their social media accounts gained more followers, their product line evolved and grew as well to meet the rising demand of customers.

So, why TCM? Does it cover all types of crafts?

Shine had this to say, “My dream has always been to have a crafting space that welcomes every kind of crafter: the card maker, the paper crafter, colorista, those who sew, work with yarn, quilters, clayists, hair bow designers. We each have a special affinity to a certain craft, while some are curious about other crafts. The beauty of this is that when we are in one space, we get to share with each other what makes our craft so special to us.”

Though TCM carries different crafting lines, it’s the crafting kits, scrapbook paper, stamps, ink pads, and crafting machines that sell like hotcakes whenever Shine posts about its availability to her community. It also helps that when Sine says “It’s so pretty!” it really is pretty and you can bet that it’ll sell out.

One of the key challenges Shine initially had was the fact that she was located in Canada making her 12 hours behind her market. However, she soon realized that this was actually her biggest strength because she had easy access to brands that most of her customers didn’t have access to. She could also lead the pack with new releases and sales that would never be available in the Philippines.

Over the years, Shine has had her fair share of life lessons and growing pains from managing TCM. She’s realized that clients will always come and go, but they will always bring something special to the community. You always need to be quick on your feet if not one step ahead, in order to keep the community engaged and growing. But with all the effort that you put in, the best part is having a community that loves you hard and supports you all the way.

One of the benefits of crafting is to heal and calm the mind. It is something that a lot of people have turned to, especially during the pandemic. It was a great way for them to connect with their creative side that has been silenced by the reality of adulting.

Crafting will stay relevant in our lives as long as we welcome and embrace it. When the world becomes too noisy and disruptive, crafting allows you to disconnect, create something magical and personal, and rediscover yourself in the process. It is that part of our soul that gives us balance, that allows us to say what’s in our hearts without using words.

For Shine, crafting has and will always be a big part of her life. From cross-stitching, sewing, card making, and her true love, scrapbooking. This has allowed her to keep intact her memories, fostering her love for paper, stickers, and ribbon, while earning money on the side.

She may be far from her home country but she doesn’t feel alone because she is constantly surrounded by people who are supportive of what she is doing and she has built a strong community of crafters, people who speak and understand her craft language.

From creating a small business to brand partnerships all over the world, from a small team to a growing team internationally, and from doing things by herself to being able to share with a community of crafters in an instant, Sunshine is definitely shining brightly in the world of crafting.

Cheers.

I remember when I gave birth to my firstborn, I was not able to prepare our hospital bag beforehand. My due date with him was supposedly October 12, but I gave birth to him on September 18. Almost a month earlier. So my mother prepared everything while I was already in the hospital during my labor.

To prevent this from happening, it's best to prepare your hospital bag around the 7th or 8th month of your pregnancy. Your baby might want to see you earlier than expected just like Nathan!

Packing your hospital bag early will ensure that you won't forget important stuff for you and your baby. It also allows you to bring anything from home that will help you relax during labor and after giving birth.

So I prepare a list of everything you might want to include in your hospital bag for you and your baby

Hospital Checklist for Mom and baby

What To Bring For Yourself

  • Important Documents. Do not forget to bring your ID, PhilHealth ID, Insurance card, Health Card, Birth Certificate (just in case), list of current medication, or any documents that the hospital might need.

  • Comfortable clothes. Bring loose-fitting clothes. Comfortable nightgowns or pajamas during nighttime. You might also want to bring a nursing dress/top if you are planning on breastfeeding, which I highly recommend. If you are planning to have a C-section, don't forget to pack a support post-surgery belt. Bring also a going-home outfit that's also comfortable like loose shirts and leggings.

  • A pair of non-slip socks or slippers. This will help you avoid accidents when walking around your room. It will also help you keep warm at night

  • Cellphone, Camera, and Charger. When social media is your life like me, you don't want to forget to bring these items. It will help you to get in touch with your friends and loved ones and keep them updated on your status. Also, taking lots of pictures of your newborn is a must! I also suggest having a charger with a long wire or an extension cord.

  • Breastfeeding pillow. Believe me, this will become your best friend when it comes to breastfeeding your baby. It gives you comfort and also helps you position your baby at a right angle.

  • Manual breastfeeding pump. Most new moms are having a hard time producing milk after giving birth. This will be helpful in stimulating your breastmilk supply while the baby is not breastfeeding on you

  • Sanitary Napkins. It is normal to bleed after giving birth (for normal delivery, less bleeding I think for C-section moms). You might want to bring heavy-duty sanitary pads as you will need to replace them at least every 2 hours. But the bleeding will eventually lessen after a few days.

  • Toiletries. Most hospitals usually provide toiletries but are still limited. Don't forget to pack your toothbrush, toothpaste, soap, facial wash, moisturizer, lip balm, wipes, hair brush, and ties.

  • Books. If you want to be away from social media and don't want to use many gadgets, you might want to bring your favorite book or anything that will help you pass the time during labor and after delivery

  • Credit Card and extra cash

  • Covid Vaccination Card

What To Bring For Your Baby

  • Newborn Diapers. Not all hospitals provide newborn diapers so I suggest bringing these for your baby

  • Receiving Blankets / Swaddle. Swaddle helps calm down the baby and it will help you easily cuddle your newborn

  • Set of baby clothes. Bring 0-3-month-old size newborn clothes. A newborn baby easily gets cold so don't forget to pack mittens, booties, and bonnet. Don't forget to bring your going home outfit!

  • Do not bring feeding bottles. Most of the hospitals in the Philippines no longer allow bringing of feeding bottles. They want to ensure that there is adequate nutrition for infants so they promote breastfeeding.

  • Do not bring "Bigkis". Pediatricians do not recommend the use of "bigkis" as this obstructs an infant's breathing

What Your Partner Or Guardian Might Need

  • Phone / Tablet / Laptop / Books. Anything that will keep them entertained during your delivery.

  • Set of Clothes. You are not sure how long you need to stay in the hospital so it's best to be prepared

  • Extra pillow and blanket. Usually, the hospital provides this also for guardians, but not all hospitals so it's best to have extra!

  • Toiletries

  • Credit Card or Cash

  • Identification Card

  • Covid Vaccination Card

There you go. Once you are ready with your hospital bag and your baby is ready to come out, you are now set to go to the hospital. Happy pregnancy mommies!

Prenatal Education promotes a healthy pregnancy. Attending maternal classes will have a huge benefit for you and your baby. It helps you support a healthy lifestyle, and also it helps you prepare for labor and delivery

Last June 11, 2022, I attended a Mother's class held by Cardinal Santos Medical Center entitled My Baby and Me: Our Nutritional Journey

They discussed the latest on breastfeeding and nutrition that was facilitated by Ms. Roxanne Hipolito. It was an unexpected invitation for me so I wasn't able to announce it to you. That's why I am sharing what we have discussed, and with the consent of the facilitators, sharing with you also some of the screenshots from the webinar.

NUTRITION GUIDELINES

Of course, we all know that eating healthy food will have a huge impact and benefits for expectant mommies and babies. It will help in the development of the baby and maintaining a proper weight.

Nutrition Guidelines for Pregnant Women

Maintaining a healthy diet also comes with maintaining a healthy lifestyle, like doing regular activities and exercises, and having your regular checkup with your doctor.

Healthy Habits for Pregnant Women

If you are having trouble thinking what to eat every day, Cardinal Santos Medical Center gave an example of a 1-day Meal Plan:

Meal Plan for Pregnant Women

TIPS AND DIET NOTES

HEALTHY MEALS

Eat a variety of the right amounts, and better foods during pregnancy and breastfeeding

HIGH FIBER FOODS

This helps in promoting heart health, decreasing diabetes risk, and preventing constipation. Whole grains, beans, oats, fruits, and vegetables.

MILK + PROTEIN

Make sure that milk, cheeses and juices consumed are pasteurized to protect you and the baby from listeriosis.

STAY HYDRATED

Avoid drinking alcohol, and limit caffeine and sugary drinks. Avoid use of tobacco and take meds only when prescribed

VITAMINS AND MINERALS

Take Iron, Folate, and Calcium supplements regularly after 14-16 weeks of pregnancy and continue during lactation

DON'T LOSE WEIGHT

Avoid restrictive weight-loss diets even when you feel like you would want to lose weight right after.

GET MOVING

Do with daily exercise or staying active as possibly manageable during pregnancy and after birth.

PROPER SLEEP

Sleep well (7-10 hours) for recovery and rest and improve blood flow

LISTENING

Listen to your body and baby. Pay attention to how your body reacts to certain foods as what you eat is also what your baby eats

VISIT YOUR DOCTOR

Regularly visit your prenatal care checkups to track your baby's growth and development

BREASTFEEDING

Being an advocate, I am glad that they also tackled breastfeeding. As early as the moment we knew that we are pregnant, we should start preparing and building healthy habits for us to have abundant supply of breastmilk.

Here are some tips to have a smooth and happy breastfeeding journey

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF BREASTFEEDING?

  • Antibacterial Factors
  • Lower incidence of allergies
  • Decreased incidence of illnesses
  • Lower incidence of chronic diseases

It's been months since I last updated this page. At first, I didn't know the reason why suddenly I lost my will to write. It's not that I am very good at writing articles, at least before, I am enjoying writing. But I came to realize why there is a sudden change in my mood and my behavior.

It was the last week of February when I felt nauseous and vomited several times. I thought it was just my acid reflux kicking in because I had 2 cups of coffee that day. But the next month came and one day, while I was just washing the dishes for just a few minutes, I felt dizzy then I vomited once again. That's when I knew there was something different with my body.

Pregnancy Test Results
I took pregnancy tests a few days after. I got 2 different brands of PT just to make sure. What made me crazy was that I got two different results!

I asked my friends about this and they all congratulated me. I was still in denial because every time they congratulate me, I always say that we are not yet sure.

So the next day I went to a clinic to have my Transvaginal Ultrasound. And even before the TVS, the OB-GYN already congratulated me.

During the ultrasound, I was really in shock when I heard the heartbeat. Even more shocked when I saw the baby with his complete legs and arms moving. I was already in my 2nd trimester. And I didn't even notice!

WHY DID I NOT NOTICE MY PREGNANCY?

If you already read my previous articles or watched my vlog, you all know that I am taking birth control pills. I was taking Daphne Pills, a progestin-only pill that is recommended for breastfeeding mothers.

One of the main reasons that I did not notice that I was pregnant was because I have no monthly periods because of the pills. Yes, this is one of the side effects of taking progestin-only pills and this is normal and safe.

Disclaimer: Ask your doctors for an opinion if you want to take any kinds of birth control pills.

SO WHY DID I GET PREGNANT EVEN WHILE TAKING PILLS?

The golden rule of taking progestin-only pills is to take them every single day, at the same time, no miss, no late. Even 2 hours of delay will increase your chance of pregnancy. There were times that I am late in taking the pills, much worst is that there were times that I even forget to take them for a day. So if you want to stick with these pills, it is best to take them properly. Set your alarm clock. Or if you are just like me who is very forgetful, might as well consider other birth control methods like injectable which is given every 3 months.

DOES TAKING BIRTH CONTROL PILLS HARMFUL DURING PREGNANCY?

I was told by the OB-GYN who did my ultrasound that it is not harmful to the baby when you take birth control pills. Thank goodness! That was my major concern the moment I knew I was pregnant. I read a lot of articles and it just made me nervous. The best way to make sure is to consult a doctor. And my baby looks so healthy and fine!

This pregnancy was unplanned just like my first pregnancy. But even if this is not what we are expecting, we are still excited to meet the newest member of the family, just like how we were excited before to meet Nathan. All babies are blessings to us!
